CALLS FOR REDUCED SPEED LIMIT FOR MURRAY VALLEY HWY THROUGH STRATHMERTON

The Strathmerton and district community is concerned that traffic moves too quickly through the main street of the town and creates a safety hazard, so community members have approached Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell for assistance.
During this Parliament sitting week Ms Lovell took the issue to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, calling on him to address the concerns of the local community.
“The current speed limit on the stretch of the Murray Valley Highway that goes through the Strathmerton township is 80km/h,” Ms Lovell said.
“I recently met with a group of Strathmerton-area community members who raised the concern that this speed limit is too high for a stretch of road that travels right through the main shopping section of the town, particularly as there are no traffic lights or other crossings.
“They are concerned that the current speed limit presents a legitimate safety concern for people who cross the road with the current speeds of traffic reaching 80km/h.”
Ms Lovell said the community wants the speed limit of this section of the road to be reduced to 60km/h during general times to improve safety for the local community, and has called on the Minister to consider this request.
