The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to provide additional car parking spaces at the Hurstbridge Railway Station.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allen in Parliament recently, Ms Lovell said the time had come for the Government to provide sufficient parking at Hurstbridge in line with the growth in the number of passengers who use the station.
“The Hurstbridge Railway Station services patrons from St Andrews, Panton Hill, Smiths Gully, Cottles Bridge and Arthurs Creek as well as Hurstbridge and patronage numbers on the line have increased every year,” Ms Lovell said.
Ms Lovell said the railway station has long suffered from inadequate parking spaces with patrons for many years being forced to park on a railway reserve on the western side of the railway line adjacent to the railway station but Metro has recently closed access to the reserve.
“Closing the reserve has made a bad situation worse, leaving patrons with no other parking options close to the railway station,” Ms Lovell said.
“A practical solution would be to upgrade this Public Transport Victoria owned railway reserve to increase car parking to meet the growing patronage using the Hurstbridge Railway Station,” Ms Lovell said.
“That is why I have called on the Minister to provide a commitment to fund the establishment of a carpark on the land.”
