The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to fund a planned extension and refurbishment of the Shepparton East Rural Fire Brigade station.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino, Ms Lovell said the brigade had applied for funding through the CFA Enhancing Volunteerism Grants Program and urged the State Government to support the work of the brigade and provide a commitment to fund the project.
“Shepparton East Rural Fire brigade is a busy and growing brigade and the extension and renovation of their station is needed so they can continue to provide highly professional fire services to the Shepparton East community,” Ms Lovell said.
The planned renovations include creating a larger meeting room and kitchen, disabled toilet facilities, facilities for females and the installation of a remote left door.
Ms Lovell said the renovations would not only enhance the work of current brigade members but also help recruit more volunteers, particularly more females members in the future.
“The Shepparton East Rural Fire Brigade do a wonderful job in their community and I applaud them for wanting to recruit more females into volunteer firefighting,” Ms Lovell said.
“These renovations will assist in growing the brigade as well as help the members continue their great work and that is why I call on the Minister to support them and provide funding for the project.”
