The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has maintained pressure on the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding towards the planned redevelopment of Swan Hill Health.
The hospital services a catchment of approximately 40 000 people, with demand growing each year and the current facility is old and no longer fit for purpose. In the lead up to last year’s State Election, the Liberal-National Coalition pledged $44 million, if elected, to fund the upgrade to ensure the people of Swan Hill have access to the health care they deserve.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos, Ms Lovell called on the Andrews Labor Government to match this commitment in the upcoming May State Budget and sought an undertaking from Ms Mikakos to travel to Swan Hill and inspect the current standard of the hospital for herself.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Region, Wendy Lovell:
“The Swan Hill Hospital is old and the current facilities do not meet patient care needs or standards.
“Hospital staff do a wonderful job in trying conditions and frankly, they and the entire Swan Hill community deserve better.
“As a Liberal I am proud to be part of a team that made an election commitment of $44 million to fund the upgrade of Swan Hill Health and I call on the State Government to match this pledge in the 2019 State Budget.
“It is time the Minister for Health got out of Melbourne and visited Swan Hill so she can see the condition of the hospital for herself.”
