The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to conduct a safety audit of the school crossing on the Goulburn Valley Highway outside Kialla West Primary School.
Ms Lovell made the request of Roads Minister Luke Donnellan in an adjournment debate in State Parliament this week, in the wake of a recent serious collision at the crossing.
Kialla West Primary School staff and parents have long advocated for changes to the school crossing to make it safer and Ms Lovell indicated an audit should be ordered immediately.
Ms Lovell called on Mr Donnellan to order VicRoads to conduct an urgent safety audit, to identify measures that will improve the safety of students, staff and parents who use the crossing on a daily basis.
Quotes attributable to Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell:
“A school crossing such as the one outside Kialla West Primary School that crosses a major road like the Goulburn Valley Highway heightens the danger for students, parents and drivers.”
“Sadly, the recent tragic accident has reinforced this view within the entire community.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this terrible collision and I call on the Minister to act immediately to ensure a safety audit is completed and identified measures are implemented to make the crossing safer for everyone.”
