The Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding for Bendigo Health to demolish the tower buildings on the Anne Caudle Centre and relocate several health services to another site.
In a constituency question to the Health Minister in State Parliament, Ms Lovell said Bendigo Health were forced to continue to operate services out of the cream brick north and east tower buildings, despite it not meeting current fire safety standards and other safety code specifications.
“Because of a lack of funding, Bendigo Health still operate dental, rehabilitation and some administration services from the building that does not meet the basic safety requirements,” Ms Lovell said.
Ms Lovell said she had previously raised the matter in State Parliament, calling on the Andrews Labor Government to relocate these services to another part of the old Bendigo Hospital site and demolish the tower buildings.
“The generic response I have received was that the government was working with Bendigo Hospital on possible future uses of the towers,” Ms Lovell said.
“It is time the Health Minister stopped dithering and provided the funding to relocate the services from these unsafe buildings and order their demolition.”
