The Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has again called on the Andrews Labor Government to find a site for the future home of the South Shepparton Community Centre.
In a constituency question in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell asked the Minister for Families, Children and Youth Affairs Jenny Mikakos what action she had taken to identify a suitable future home for the centre to ensure it can continue to deliver vital programs to clients into the future.
Ms Lovell first raised the issue with the Minister back in February, calling on her to ensure the future of the South Shepparton Community Centre by finding a suitable new home and fund relocation costs for the centre.
The Minister responded to Ms Lovell’s calls in March, stating DHHS was working to find a new, more suitable site for the Centre. It has now been revealed by South Shepparton Community Centre management that no new site has been found and concerns remain for the ongoing future of the centre.
Quotes attributed to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The South Shepparton Community Centre delivers important services to the Shepparton community and plays a significant role in many people’s lives.”
“When I raised the issue with the Minister earlier in the year, she indicated that DHHS were working to find a suitable new home for the SSCC, yet six months later it appears nothing has been done and its ongoing operation remains uncertain.”
“The Minister needs to come clean and explain to the Shepparton community what has she done and what she plans to do to ensure the future of the South Shepparton Community Centre.”
