The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell says a recent survey by one of Australia’s premier automotive organisations shows the Shepparton rail line is on track to become the worst in the State, after the recent announcement of Federal Government funding to upgrade the North-East line.
The recently published RACV On Track Survey of Victoria’s region rail passengers found that services on the North-East line including Wodonga and Wangaratta suffered the worse rail service in the State, with Shepparton coming in as the second worst rail service in Victoria.
Ms Lovell said the Federal Government is delivering $1.7 billion to fund the Andrew Government’s Regional Rail Revival Program, including $235 million specifically to upgrade the North-East line to class 2 standard, allowing faster services to stations on the line including Wodonga and Wangaratta.
“The Regional Rail Revival Program consist of regional rail projects that are priorities to the Andrews Labor Government but inexplicitly those priorities do not include Shepparton,” Ms Lovell said.
“While the Federal Government funding is wonderful news for the people of the North-East the result is that Shepparton will soon take the title as having the worst rail service in Victoria because the Andrews Labor Government chose not to include Shepparton in their Regional Rail Revival program.”
“Once again Premier Daniel Andrews and his Transport Minister Jacinta Allan have ignored the needs of Shepparton rail passengers and the Shepparton line will soon be known as the worst rail service in Victoria,” Ms Lovell said.
