The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has thrown her support behind a planned redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health’s Community Health Precinct in Corio Street and has called on the Andrews Labor Government to do the same.
Speaking during an adjournment debate in State Parliament recently, Ms Lovell said the planned $10 million redevelopment will meet the growing demand for primary care and community health services in the Goulburn Valley and urged the Health Minister Jill Hennessy to back the project.
“Goulburn Valley Health has submitted a funding application of $10m to the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund Round 2 to upgrade the current Corio Street site into a ‘one stop shop’ for community and primary care services,” Ms Lovell said.
“With stage one of the hospital’s redevelopment focussed on acute care, the Labor Government needs to invest in primary care services for the Goulburn Valley community.”
Ms Lovell said the redevelopment will enable GV Health to relocate Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and ambulatory paediatric services to join with the other services already in place on the Corio Street site.
“The demand for primary and community care is growing each and every year and I fully support GV Health’s vision to create a new fit-for-purpose facility within the Shepparton CBD,” Ms Lovell said.
“It is vital that the Health Minister supports GV Health’s funding submission to the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and ensure the $10m application is successful so this project becomes a reality for the people of the Goulburn Valley.”
