Speaking in State Parliament last week, Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to provide financial support to assist Strathbogie Shire with flood recovery measures in the wake of the recent extreme weather event that ravaged the area.
In a constituency question to the Premier, Ms Lovell said it was incumbent on the State Government to provide adequate financial support to the Council to assist flood recovery efforts.
“The cost of damage to roads, bridges and infrastructure in the shire has exceeded $5million and I hope Strathbogie Shire Council’s Natural Disaster Funding claim is processed without delay.”
Ms Lovell said as well as the damage to council infrastructure, many businesses had been adversely affected by the storm.
“The Euroa Butter Factory lost income after being forced on cancel a wedding reception and damage caused at the Euroa Caravan Park will severely restrict customer trade in the short to medium term,” Ms Lovell said.
“The Shire of Strathbogie led by Mayor Amanda McClaren is doing a wonderful job delivering recovery measures to all residents affected by the recent flooding event and I am calling on the Premier to ensure the Government provides the adequate financial support to the council to assist with these measures.”
