The Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has accused the Andrews Labor Government of treating the voters of Shepparton with contempt after it was revealed the electorate would not receive a single cent in funding under the Government’s recently announced Regional Roads Victoria road maintenance fund.
The State Government launched a media blitz this morning trumpeting the fund, issuing 10 cookie-cutter media releases announcing road maintenance funding in Geelong, Eastern Victoria, Western Victoria, the South-West, North-East, North-West of the State, Macedon Ranges, Bendigo and Ballarat; every part of Victoria except in the Shepparton electorate, a situation Ms Lovell described as “disgraceful”.
“One of the biggest priorities for people living in the Shepparton electorate is improving the condition of local roads,” Ms Lovell said.
“To think that not one cent will be spent by Regional Roads Victoria on road maintenance in the Shepparton electorate beggars’ belief.”
Ms Lovell said the fact that every part of regional Victoria except Shepparton received the funding showed the utter contempt in which Shepparton voters are held by the Andrews Labor Government.
“This announcement shows that Daniel Andrews and his Government do not care about the voters of the Shepparton electorate and the standard of our local roads,” Ms Lovell said.
“That every other part of Victoria get their roads upgraded and Shepparton fails to get one metre of road maintenance is absolutely disgraceful.”
